Chamlian School Raises Money for Haiti

GLENDALE—In an effort to help Haiti, which is in desperate need of aid, the administration, parents, students and supporters of Vahan and Anoush Chamlian Armenian School are undertaking fundraising efforts for Haiti.

“This tragedy especially resonates with Armenians who remember the devastating Spitak earthquake in Armenia in 1988”, said Principal Vazken Madenlian. “We were so thankful for the help Armenia received to start the process of rebuilding.”

The administration has placed collection boxes in classrooms, educated the students about the tragedy in Haiti, and encouraged them to make donations. More than just helping those in dire need, this collection effort will provide a valuable lesson to students about the importance of charity.  All donations will be presented to an aid organization working directly with the victims in Haiti.

Individuals wishing to donate can do so by sending or delivering a check to the school office at 4444 Lowell Ave., Glendale, CA 91214.  Please make the checks payable to Chamlian Armenian School.

Did Haiti send us anything for the Spitak earthquake? A dollar? A penny?
As cruel as it may sound, why don’t we try to help ourselves? Our schools in Armenia, and our orphaned kids need help … more.  While Principal Vazken Madenlian does, indeed,  a marvelous work  in terms, only, of teaching the meaniong of the word ‘charity’ to our kids here, I think he should instead teach our children about their brothers and sisters — all in need — in Armenia.
Cruel? Yes. But we have been dealt with cruelty in our entire history.
