Dear Compatriots,
On August 23, 1990, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Armenia adopted Armenia’s Declaration of Independence. On September 21, 1991, the people of Armenia, through a referendum, reaffirmed their collective will to form an independent state, by announcing the beginning of the new road for a free and independence Republic of Armenia.

We are marking the 29th anniversary of our independence, however dozens of generations have been inured by the ideal and prospect of an independent state and have lived with the dream of independence. At the beginning of the last century we succeeded in establishing an independent state, albeit short-lived. The dream of independence, however, was not abated even in Soviet Armenia. As a nation and as a state, we are the descendants of that dream—our historic journey. As such, but reflecting and taking lessons from the past, we are also responsible for the future.

Independence itself is the greatest and most irrefutable principle. Our independence, however, was crowned with the greatest of achievement-our victory in the Artsakh liberation war and by imposing peace on the enemy.

The road to independence has not been easy. Along with our achievements we have also had shortcomings, some of which were due to subjective reasons. However, we have not given up on our collective dream of developing, building a prosperous, dignified and resourceful country.

Today, the Republic of Armenia, in addition to the continued regional security threats, faces several domestic challenges. The atmosphere of intolerance and enmity are deepening in every-day civic relations and we are concerned for the country’s development.

We are well aware that the challenges facing our independent state can be overcome only through national unity, with the belief in the principles and goals of independence and high-minded political will.

Dear Compatriots, we offer our congratulations on the anniversary of the Republic of Armenia’s Independence. We are confident that together we can impact our independence journey with unabated achievements.
