Armenia FM: Armenia Will Continue to Advance Genocide Prevention Agenda

KIGALI, RWANDA—Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, made an official visit to Kigali on April 5, where he met with Donatille Mukabalisa, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of Rwanda. As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia told Armenian News—— Minister Mnatsakanyan indicated Armenia’s commitment to enhancing sector-specific cooperation with African countries. He emphasized the importance of international organizations, and more specifically that of the International Organization of La Francophonie.

Both parties discussed the potential advantages that would result from strengthening the relationship between the two geographically distant nations. During this dialogue, they stressed the importance of increasing parliamentary diplomacy and reciprocal visits between both Armenia and Rwanda.

Mnatsakanyan spoke about Armenia’s Velvet Revolution, describing the various societal, political, and economic changes that took place as a result. He highlighted the fact that the reforms being implemented by the Armenian government were rooted in a broad mandate by the people. Mnatsakanyan further explained that the reforms aim to strengthen democracy and create equal opportunities in the economic sector of Armenia.

Touching upon necessary actions aimed at preventing genocides and crimes against humanity, Mnatsakanyan stated that Armenia, as a responsible member of the international community, will continue to advance the genocide prevention agenda. Both speakers stressed the importance of a joint effort, with Armenia and Rwanda continuing to work together at international levels.

Donatille Mukabalisa welcomed, and expressed appreciation for Zohrab Mnatsakanyan’s participation in the events, which were dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide.
