Doctors have amputated the right foot of an Armenian de-miner who was seriously injured when a landmine exploded near Aleppo, the Armenian Center for Humanitarian De-Mining and Expertise reported on Friday.

Nazeli Elbakyan, a spokesperson for the agency that is affiliated with Armenia’s Defense Ministry said that the officer, who was clearing mines as part of a humanitarian mission dispatched to Syria last month, was out of danger.

“Doctors now describe his condition as normal. He will be transported to Armenia,” Elbakyan told RFE/RL’s Armenian service. She refused to identify the injured officer.

The cause of the incident was a booby trap landmine that was concealed under a plastic layer.

On February 8, Armenia dispatched 83 army medics, de-miners and other experts to the Syrian city of Aleppo on what was described as a humanitarian mission. The mission, which was hailed by Russia but criticized by the United States, was part of Yerevan’s efforts to provide assistance to post-war Syria.

Result of Russian pressure to have Armenian soldiers serve in a distant war zone and create an unnecessary conflict between Armenia and the west.

@State of Emergency: Don’t bash Russia, where were Western countries when Russia was defending Armenia, don’t be ungrateful, until now US and many EU countries haven’t recognised the Genocide.

My heart hurts for my fellow countryman who had to suffer such a wound….a wound that tends to go much deeper than the flesh. I am glad he is still with us & I pray & home the people & government of Armenia recognize his sacrifice when he returns.
