Armenia’s Artur Aleksanyan celebrates his gold medal win during at the Senior Wrestling European Championship in Tbilisi

YEREVAN—Armenia’s Federation of Sports Journalists has named Greco-Roman wrestler Artur Aleksanyan as the best athlete of 2017. Alekasanyan won a gold medal at the World Wrestling Championship and won a bronze medal at the European Championship.
The 21-person federation rounded out the top 10 list with the following athletes:

Maksim Manukyan – World wrestling champion,
Levon Aronyan – Grandmaster, two-time World Cup winner,
Simon Martirosyan – silver medalist of Olympic Games in Rio in weightlifting,
Hovhannes Bachkov – European boxing champion,
Gor Minasyan – Silver medalist of Olympic Games in Rio in weightlifting
Tigran Kirakosyan – World and European champion in sambo
Sergey Mikayelyan – Skier who qualified for 2018 Winter Olympics,
Artur Tovmasyan – Gold medalist of 2017 Summer Universiade in Taiwan
Andranik Karapetyan – European champion in weightlifting in 2016
